kitchen chemist: lemon knee & elbow scrub

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

We are smack-dead in the middle of winter but I know that I can't be the only one that is thinking obsessing about summertime already. I've already picked out maxidresses, miniskirts and bathing suits. To get ready for those miniskirts this summer, I've gathered a few things from my kitchen to create a homemade lemon scrub for my knees (and elbows) to even out those dark spots.

Here are the three things that we need:

5 tablespoons of brown sugar
2 lemons
1 tablespoon of olive oil

Combine the brown sugar, which acts as a gentle exfoliant, and olive oil, one of my favorite all-purpose moisturizers. Cut the lemons, squeeze and mix the lemon juice into the brown sugar and olive oil.

Darker knees and elbows are basically a combination of dead skin cell buildup and excess scar tissue from all of the added pressure that we place on these body parts by leaning and kneeling on them.

In addition to using the scrub a couple of times a week, don't forget to continue to apply your favorite moisturizer and SPF to those areas daily.
