Kerry
Washington has been a girl crush of mine since Save The Last Dance (am I telling my age, lol). Her
career has reached new heights with her starring role on ABC's political soap
opera, Scandal, and her upcoming role in Quentino Tarantino's Django Unchained. She spoke to
Elle about her current career high.
My
favorite outtake from the interview was regarding her character in Django
Unchained, who is not the typical Tarantino heroine but rather waits
for her husband to rescue her. “Look,"
she explains, "I can see how it’s not particularly feminist to play the
princess in the tower, waiting to be saved but as a black woman—we’ve never
been afforded that luxury. There was no man coming to save you; it wasn’t part
of the story. In some ways, this telling is a statement of empowerment.” This
gorgeous, politically active, George Washington University graduate never
