Hey ladies, I've got some goodness to share with
you. Yesterday I headed over to Imena Salon, a tranquil salon in Harlem, to
participate in a free demonstration of the Huetiful nanoSMOOTHING System.
The system, which is
offered in these
salons, is intended to allow you to more easily straighten your curly or
kinky hair, make your hair more resistant to curl reversion once its
straightened, and when you wear you hair in its natural curly or kinky state,
should define and stretch your curls.
One thing to stress is that the nanoSMOOTHING system is NOT a texturizer, relaxer or keratin treatment or I would not have volunteered to try it. There is no lye or formaldehyde in the products used in the system. The active ingredient is actually a protein called cysteine. Ya'll know that I'm not a scientist so I'll direct you this way for more information on precisely how the products work.
I will tell you all about the process, though, because I was incredibly impressed.
First, Nina, the fly stylist from Huetiful, washed my hair three times ---yes, THREE---with the Huetiful Clarifying Shampoo. I almost died when she told me that she was going to shampoo my hair three times but I must tell you that my hair was soft and moisturized after the washes. She then easily detangled my hair with a wide tooth comb during the shampoo. I NEVER EVER detangle my hair without conditioner but the detangling process was actually incredibly easy and she even showed me that she could finger detangle my hair if that was my preference. I had very little shedding during the wash and detangle.
Next, Nina applied the nanoSMOOTHING treatment and sat me under the Huetiful steamer for about 15 minutes. (Santa, may you please bring me one of these for Christmas. My hair has been incredibly good. :) )
She blew my hair dry -- this only took 19 minutes! -- then flat-ironed it.
I think that I mentioned that I usually do a Dominican roller set (ie. rollers
under the dryer for 45 minutes, blown out roots and then a flat iron), so I was
impressed at how much less heat was used. My hair also had the same body and
movement that you get from that roller set.
Finally, Nina sprayed my hair with the Leave-In Protectant. She did not add any serum, oil or grease to my hair yet my brown hair was shining bright.
Here are the final results. What do you think? I love it!
I am so anxious to see how my hair continues to react to the system. I will check in with you guys later in the week to let you know how my straight hair holds up and of course I will get back to you after wash day to discuss the system's effects on my curls.
Would you try the Huetiful nanoSMOOTHING System?
(Surrounded by l to r: aspiring stylists, Ken Burkeen, Huetiful owner, Tami of Imena Salon and Nina, the stylist)

Wow it looks amazing. I gave up on straightening my hair because it just didn't last long enough to warrant all the work and time it took to get it straight. Cant wait to see how it works out day by day.
Your hair looks great dear!

I Love It!
Thanks ladies! I'm excited about posting an update tomorrow. Today's rain in NYC was a good test for the process and my hair still looks like it did on day one. :)
Wow! Your hair looks amazing. You have me wanting to try to do this myself.
Looks great! When is Huetiful coming back to NYC with the Nano Smoothing system?
Thanks! I'm not sure when Huetiful will be back but I do know that select salons in NYC will offer the treatment including Imena Salon, a cute salon in Harlem (and the space that we used to do this demonstration).
